We have a big #cheer today for the news that fashion designer Michael Kors will no longer be using animal fur in his products, with production being phased out by the end of December 2018. The policy will apply companywide, including the Jimmy Choo brand, which Kors acquired in July.

This news shows pressure from animal right activists and changing consumer tastes matter!

“This decision marks a new chapter as our company continues to evolve its use of innovative materials,” said John D. Idol, Michael Kors’ chairman and chief executive, in a statement.

“Due to technological advances in fabrications, we now have the ability to create a luxe aesthetic using non-animal fur,” added designer Michael Kors. “We will showcase these new techniques in our upcoming runway show in February.”

Friends of Animals has been educating the public about the horrors of the fur industry for decades. Most recently, we’ve been “flipping off” those who think it’s cool to wear animals with our fox and hand gesture. And this year we targeted Canada Goose Clothing Co., which traps customers in its lies about the “humane” ways it tortures ducks and geese and coyotes to make its jackets. No matter what feel good message the fur industry tries to portray, there’s no right way to do the wrong thing. To find out how to get a Canada Goose Sucks button, click here.
