1. Tell Congress to protect the Endangered Species Act

The Endangered Species Act is an incredibly successful piece of legislation: Thanks to the law’s protection, animals like black-footed ferrets, grey wolves, grizzly bears, pelicans and many others have come back from the brink of extinction. All those successes haven’t stopped critics from trying to dismantle the law. Recently five bills have been introduced in the Senate that would undermine or diminish the Endangered Species Act. Stand with endangered species everywhere by urging the Senate to protect this law from future attacks!

2. Help us gain support for our “Africa Big 5” Bill that will protect threatened species from poaching and trophy hunting.

Introduced into the NY legislature last month and drafted by Friends of Animals’ (FoA) Wildlife Law Program director Michael Harris, our “Africa Big 5” bill would ban the import, possession, sale or transportation in New York of five species of animals native to Africa.

The legislation would protect the African elephant, lion, leopard, black rhino and white rhino, all of whom are threatened by illegal poaching and sport hunting and are currently facing extinction.

If you live in New York, you can contact your state legislators and ask them to support our bill and help protect the last of Africa’s critically threatened species.

3. Commit today to a palm-oil free lifestyle.

The immeasurable damage palm oil production is having on the world’s rainforests and wildlife is no secret….but avoiding it can be tricky, since it tends to pop up in everything from hand soap to breakfast cereals. Palm oil production is having a devastating effect on endangered species like the Sumatran orangutan, elephant and tiger.

The good news is, there’s a growing number of palm oil alternatives becoming steadily more available! Take a look at our tips and suggestions on our Pinterest page on how to incorporate palm-oil alternatives into your life so you can be 100% sure you’re doing right by our rainforests, wildlife and entire planet.

4. Join Friends of Animals today to help protect the world’s endangered species from increasing exploitation.

In 2013, we also established our own Wildlife Law Program in order to bridge the gap that occasionally forms between animal and environmental activists who fail to utilize laws that would benefit their causes. The mission of the program is to use laws, like the Endangered Species Act,  for the singular purpose of ensuring the right of all wildlife to live in an ecosystem free from human manipulation, exploitation, or abuse. You can join us at the forefront of animal advocacy by becoming a member with us today.
