NYS Alert: Call Your State Senator
Thanks to Your Calls, the NYS Assembly Passed A3431D, Banning Devocalization, 95-2!!
But You Now Need to Fight Harder Than Ever. Lobbies That Profit From This Cruelty Have Mobilized to Kill Senate Bill S6167C Because BOTH Bills Must Pass As Written by June 21 to Put an Enforceable Devocalization Ban on the Books in New York State.
Thanks to your calls, the NYS Assembly passed A3431D, banning devocalization of dogs and cats, by a whopping 95-2 on June 13. Don’t celebrate yet: Lobbies that profit from this cruel convenience surgery have mobilized to kill Senate bill S6167C.
That’s because the Assembly AND Senate bills BOTH must pass to put a devocalization ban on the books.
If S6167C doesn’t pass by June 21, the proposed law will die.
If amended, it will allow and legitimize instead of prohibiting this outrageous act of animal cruelty.
Dogs and cats don’t need devocalization. They don’t want their vocal cords cut—or to choke to death, struggle to breathe, cough and gag relentlessly. Those are common complications of devocalization even when performed by experienced vets.
What helpless animals need is an enforceable law to protect them.
They need your voice to pass that law.
SENATORS HAVE HUNDREDS OF BILLS TO CONSIDER OVER THE NEXT WEEK.
KEEP YOUR CONCERN FRONT AND CENTER: MAKE THESE 2 CALLS DAILY THROUGH JUNE 21… OR TILL S6167C PASSES AS WRITTEN.
Call every day and get 3 friends to do the same. Senators are being pressured by monied lobbies that profit from devocalization to kill the proposed law. They need to hear from humane people in great numbers to pass it. Remember: emails can be ignored. Calls can’t.
Senators want your vote in November; you deserve theirs now!
• Calling for the first time? Say each message below, including the bill number, exactly.
• For follow-up calls: Ask the bill’s status, then repeat your original message. Always be polite!
1) Tell the office of Senate Majority Leader Skelos at 518-455-3171 or 516-766-8383: “I’d like the Senator to ensure S6167C becomes law this session, as written, without further amendments. This is important humane legislation. Many people are counting on his help.”
2) Tell the office of your NYS Senator (Albany, not DC): “I’m a constituent, and I’d like the Senator to ensure S6167C becomes law this session without further amendments. Please pass this humane bill now…as written. It’s a top priority for me, and I’ll be following it.”
