Darien, Connecticut-Friends of Animals filed a Motion to Intervene in the case Alliance for the Wild Rockies v. Salazar, which challenges the constitutionality of Section 1713 of the Department of Defense and Full-Year Continuing Appropriations Act of 2011, P.L. 112-10 (also called the "budget rider" or the "wolf rider"). The budget rider directed the USFWS to reinstate the 2007 wolf delisting rule, which removed gray wolves in all areas of the Northern Rocky Mountains Distinct Population Segment (DPS) from protection under the Endangered Species Act. The original complaint was filed by Alliance for the Wild Rockies, Friends of the Clearwater and WildEarth Guardians on May 5, 2011 and the case was recently consolidated with another case, Center for Biological Diversity v. Salzar. The complaints challenge constitutionality of this legislative enactment.

Friends of Animals' president Priscilla Feral says,

We must do everything in our power to undo the deadly disservice that was done to gray wolves; taking them off of the Endangered Species List was not only unethical and unjust-it was unconstitutional.

The wolf delisting rider, which was included in the 2011 federal budget, was sponsored by Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, and was passed with a bipartisan vote of 81-19 on April 14, 2011.

Friends of Animals: We are a non-profit, international animal advocacy organization, founded in 1957. Our goal is to cultivate a respectful view of non-human animals, freeing them from cruelty and institutionalized exploitation around the world.

iI is a crime against humanity to take gray wolves off the endangered list. These politicians should know that we shall never have peace or justice as long as we mistreat god's creation. Think of the bad example you are setting for constituents.

The wolves, horses, and burros have a friend in FoA!

Right On Friends Of Animals!

Very good news indeed. Thank you Friends of Animals!

Thank you for taking this action against the undemocratic, underhanded rider attached to the unrelated, must-pass budget bill by the wolf-hating Senators from Montana and Idaho (with the blessing of our Interior Secretary Salazar, the rancher and hunters' friend). Thia attack on our gray wolf species, and on the Endangered Species Act itself makes me feel physically ill. The Senate vote on that bill, maintaining the rider, is one of the most disgusting, heinous things I have ever seen and opens the door to unlimited political removals of rightly protected endangered species. To heck with science, who needs it? We have political expediency and an administration that supports it. I am so sad and really broken-hearted over this. I called thirteen Senate offices and the White House on April 8th, about the wolf-kill rider, all to no avail. My own Senator's aide told me it was a tea party issue, and didn't know the first thing about it (I filled him in, however). I had extremely high hopes for the Obama administration in terms of using good science and taking the high road in environmentally sensitive issues, and worked very hard in 2008 for the Democrats. Now look at what has happened. Thank you for pursuing this terrible injustice in the courts. Our wildlife and our environment are at stake.

We know Obama would not protect animals. It's not in his political interest. There were many who thought that hope and change would be a positive for the country. NOPE. To attach a highly controversial issue such as this to a must-pass budget bill is a travesty. To state that there can be no judicial review is treason. Since when can ANY law, rule, or declaration not be subject to legal challenge. The sponsors of this rider should be voted out immediately. They are ruining our country. Wolves are an important keystone in the wildlife mix. We should treat them with the same respect that the original people of this land did.

For the human Race:'Thou shalt not kill"...practice what you preach!! Humans and wildlife here to share the earth, and co-exist. The creator is not happy when the Earth is disrespected to the point of EXTINCTION!! The people including the hunters and ranchers who are so for procreation of their own species, have no cares for those species that make them no financial gains. Thank you for helping the WOLVES!!

You give us hope, and my heart smiles. It has been a long strange trip, and we are all weary. In addition to my sincere gratitude, I also add my love and prayers for every success Priscilla. May all the goodness organizations such as yours represents be turned into not only a miracle for the wolves, but a thousand blessings for everyone who stands up to this terrible injustice. Keep fighting the good fight. You are not alone...we stand united behind you.

Those congressmen that made up that rider and voted for it are either wildlife haters or a ranchers and cattlemen or are in their pocket.
